Random Page Prompt
This one is straight-forward, if truly random. Pick up the book that is in physically closest proximity to you and turn to page 76. Find the first full paragraph on the page. Choose a sentence from that paragraph, write it down or type it into a blank document, then write whatever is prompted in you from that sentence as it could apply to some aspect of your current writing project. May the force be with you.
(A kind of post script…you just never know… Likely because we write 24/7, sometimes the most random prompts can offer up gems. In applying this prompt this morning, I clarified something elemental about a character for whom I have had a number of revelations of late, the kind of recognition about her character that gets at the hart of the book I am writing. That insight will pay dividends again and again in the coming weeks. Moreover, in my own case, with the smallest amount of text-specific revision of the prompt line, I’ve written a passage that I can work directly into the manuscript.)
